Last year we offered a class that put art directors/designers and copywriters together - in teams. It was our first team experience, and the results are pretty great.
The students were guided by Justin Hiew and Eric Mayse who are both working professionals. Instructors Henry Hikima and Gina Greco also directed student roll-outs.
The challenge for copywriters - especially students - is to get designed work in their books that showcase their talent. The combo course started with a copy direction that was brought to life by the art director.
The teams met and worked together throughout the 8-week course (and beyond). The collaboration resulted in numerous 2015 ADDY awards.
In fact, Stephen and Monique, the team that created ads for the Mount Vernon Museum, won a National ADDY for the series.
Some of the teams are working together on new projects for their books - and that is just how it should work.
