IDEATION, Design & ART DIRECTION Courses
• Concepting 1: Ad & Design Techniques
You'll improve your thinking skills as you brainstorm strategies for print, outdoor & guerrilla. This is a technique driven course where you’ll practice approaches used by professionals for unique, out-of-the-box solutions. Working from industry creative briefs, you’ll build advertisements and designs for a variety of brands, products, and services.
• Concepting 2: Ideation for Campaigns
This course expands your conceptual vocabulary and makes it easier to discover, evaluate and develop big ideas. You’ll improve your thinking skills as you brainstorm strategies. Working from industry creative briefs, you’ll learn and practice approaches used by pros in this technique driven course.
• Concepting 3: Design for Advertising Media
In this course you’ll work on concept creation for a variety of mediums. The focus here might be on design or advertising work - depending on the client needs as well as your portfolio. New techniques will be shared in order to push your brainstorming abilities further and help you understand what makes a great idea that can be rolled-out into a full campaign.
• Art Direction: Layout and Design
A great visual concept cannot be expressed without strong art direction. Using photography, illustration, and copywriting, you’ll advance your creative vision and express the brand story. You’ll direct design, layout, composition, color, and typography for finished pieces. Photoshop will be taught as part of this course.
• Art Direction: Diverse Media
Today, art directors work with print, digital, broadcast, and innovative mediums like wearables and apps. In this class you’ll conduct research to better understand trends and target audiences and be able to showcase your concept using the right media, the right way.
• Art Direction: Campaigns
You’ll learn about the job of the art director and how to deliver a single message in an expanded campaign. Here the business side of art direction including estimating, budgeting, freelancing, and working with vendors is explored. This course may be tied to a national or international competition, and creating the unexpected is expected here.
This course may be held offsite at an ad agency or design studio. Copywriters will collaborate with art directors to bring work to life.
• Design: Entertainment Posters
This course uses a combination of graphic design, illustration, concept development and branding skills for the purposes of promoting motion pictures, television, and games. A primary focus will be posters for different genres. New techniques will be shared in order to push your brainstorming abilities and help you understand what makes a great entertainment design without relying on celebrity photos.
• Design: Original Logos
In this course you’ll work on concept creation with company logos. The focus here is to create a logo that communicates the company position and value. New techniques will be shared in order to push your brainstorming abilities and help you understand what makes a great logo that is simple, symbolic, and eye catching.
